Is there a doctor in the house?

  • Nov. 8th, 2009 at 1:18 PM
Hey DP. A friend of mine is seeking assistance in finding a good doctor in the areas of Portland or Salem to treat ongoing fibromyalgia.
Any referrals..?

SAD

Ok. It's starting to get to me. Aside from a tanning booth, anyone know of a spa or gym that has light therapy rooms? Dirty Little Secret is now closed.

Yes, I'm supplementing with exercise and a homemade full spectrum light but I really need to sit in my bathrobe in front of a giant panel of happy lights, I think.

bpm counter?

  • Nov. 8th, 2009 at 11:27 AM
Hi.

So iTunes has a BPM column, but no program to analyze BPM of music files. Anyone know of a good Mac program I can use for this?

Ideally, I'd like something that I can run within iTunes (for example, once installed, shows up as an option in, say, the File menu), or at least something that will automatically update the BPM information in a track's ID3 tag after analyzing it. I'd rather not have to enter this information manually for each track.

Thanks folks!

Celebrating childhood goodness again. And yes, one of my favorite 'toys' was not really a toy at all but a child-size bookshelf in the living room, the sort that was divided, with a sliding chalkboard top that revealed a storage bin beneath. I devoured books from the time I was in kindergarten.

* Every night, at bedtime, my mother would read a chapter of a book to me. My favorite as a little girl was Charlotte's Web.
** They were a special once a week treat. To this day, mom still makes me blueberry muffins on my birthday if I am in town.
*** Funny story but D said he would get it, tear through the pages and hastily scribble down a wish list. I would peruse the book a few times, take a notebook paper, methodically draw columns down it and then write out the page, item number, item description, size or style (if applicable) and price, before giving my wish list to an adult. I told this story to D and he said, "Somehow that doesn't surprise me."

birthday meh

  • Nov. 8th, 2009 at 1:41 AM
I get to turn 34 next week. meh. This is the first birthday i haven't looked forward to since 27. I didn't look forward to that one either. I guess that this one bugs me because for the first time ever i feel that clock ticking (annoyingly because of friends and them saying "i wouldn't have a baby past 35")...anyway, made me wonder what birthdays other people dreaded or do dread? curious what other folks reasons were.

My lymph nodes in my neck the past couple hours have been really sore and I have a mildly sore throat. Do painful lymph nodes precede inevitable illness? Or is my body fighting something off and have a chance of recovering before I become officially infected with whatever is trying to infect me?

Video Games Live

We just got back from the Video Games Live concert at the Schnitz. Two thumbs up, and there is another show tomorrow night. The pianist made my head explode! Any other DPers there tonight? Going tomorrow?

I have been going through a "Sweeney Todd" phase, and I discovered this really cool song that was left out of the movie, for those of you who liked it. Enjoy!

Our Halloween Show

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 3:43 PM
Hello Portlanders of the Damned!

Did anyone attend our Halloween show?

If you did, did you take pictures? Video? Have any thoughts or testimonials? The show was in part a benefit for The Archimedes Movement's HeART of Healing, and they are interested in getting photos, videos, etc. to use on their website, so any of that would be suuuper helpful!

Send emails to vagablogopera at gmail (dot)com!

Thanks Portland!

Rode out to Wilson's Mills again with D--I keep saying our new house is in Clayton--it's not. Well, the physical address is, but it's situated between Clayton and Selma, which means diddly squat if you aren't local. Anyhow, the grass is growing in nicely. Little disappointed that the fallen tree in the back part of the property wasn't removed, but it wasn't a stipulation in the contract either, just something we'd hoped the builder would take care of as a courtesy. No matter, one of the guys from D's work has already offered to haul it away for us. Ironic that we now have a year's supply of firewood readily available and our new digs have only a gas fireplace. Two new homes that we've watched from the time they cleared the lots and began framing are nearing completion. No ground broken on the new street yet.

Decided on an annual Waterford crystal snowflake ornament as a thank you for our realtor. We also looked at the Lenox annual, but were concerned that it was too fragile, since she has two little ones. Not sure what we'll get my SIL, who rebated the commission. The picture (below) doesn't do it justice. Trust me.

I'll also be making Sharon some cookies. I was hoping to do some decorated sugars but I don't know how much time I'll have this week. It will probably come down to Triple Chocolate Mocha along with either Ginger Spice or White Chocolate Cranberry. I really haven't decided. Then I've got these beautiful snowflake candy molds from last year which I would make in white chocolate with some Crème de menthe confectionery oil. We'll see though...

I treated us to lunch at Sweet Tomatoes (Souplantation for those of you on the West coast). Their Pumpkin Bisque has made it to my newest list of favorites. Seriously sumptuous. Going to play around and try to duplicate their recipe. Speaking of Pumpkin, #156 is in the stores again. Made by Dreyers. And yes, I did have some self-restraint at the grocery today. Almost forgot but while we were at the restaurant, a family came in--mom, dad and five year old. They brought the kid in a McDonalds Happy Meal. How in the heck do these parents think that their children are ever going to eat new foods if they don't make an effort to at least expose them to new tastes and textures? I mean c'mon. You can't tell me that your kid can't find something to eat at a restaurant that serves macaroni and cheese and pasta with meat sauce on their hot station? For cryin' out loud people.

Went by the Ashley Furniture showroom on the way home, scouting out for a new dining room (ours is a very old hand me down with wobbly chairs we have to repair every few months). Looked at the Fowler set. It is by far my favorite although we also looked at Hailey and Ariel (maybe a little too contemporary for us). Many of the others were nice but were either the wrong scale or too formal and ornate.

Relaxing at the house tonight. Football and packing tommorrow (D and me respectively). Hope everyone is having an awesome weekend.
